BODE Rope Brake

Bode Rope BrakeBODE Rope Brakes are safety systems especially designed to combat overspeed and uncontrolled movement in either up or down direction.

BODE Rope Brakes are type tested to meet European Standard EN 81 and are compliant to worldwide Standards including AS1735.

When installed in combination with the appropriate Overspeed Governor and Control Unit, the Rope Brake monitors the following conditions:

1. OVERSPEED:

‘Overspeed’ is when the lift travels in either direction at any speed over the specified contract speed.

Should this occur, the governor's safety circuit (or pre-cutoff switch) will trigger the Rope Brake to close on the ropes thereby decelerating the travelling speed of the lift car then holding the car in a stationary position.

2. UNCONTROLLED MOVEMENT:

If the lift starts moving in either direction without a travel command, the Rope Brake will close.

A pressure roller installed against the suspension ropes is used to monitor any uncontrolled movement. Should the lift move in either direction without a travel command the Rope Brake will activate via proximity switches.

[NOTE: Only Brakes fitted with Controller C31 will be activated in cases of uncontrolled movement]

3. POWER FAILURE:

The Rope Brake will activate in the event of a power failure.

When the power fails, the reserved energy in the air compressor receiver activates the Brake. The Brake’s hold is maintained throughout the power outage. Upon re-establishment of the power supply, the Rope Brake will automatically deactivate on the condition that no faults have occurred.

4. SYSTEM TESTING:

The Rope Brake's control unit performs a system check once every 24 hours.

This check is carried out by the control unit when the lift is not in operation. If this check should fail, the lift is automatically taken out of service.

Available types:

Type Max. Capacity Q (kg)* Brake Force (N) B max. (N)
SB200 700 7.775 - 12.440 13.000
SB330 1600 21.167 - 33.868 34.000
  SB331** 1600 21.167 - 33.868 34.000
SB380 2200 45.555 - 64.465 43.000

*Double these capacities when lift is roped 2:1
Nominal load (at upwards travel 1:1) = Counterweight – Cabin weight
B max. = Maximum of possibly arising forces acting on the rope brake’s mountings.
Note: Higher load capacities can be achieved when installing 2 rope brakes.
**SB 331 is the model number given to SB 330 turned 90° to achieve extra pad width.
A Data Sheet must be completed for each installation for BODE’s confirmation of appropriate Brake type.
